Transfer Deadline Day - January 31st 2003

Wow!! What a day here in Middlesbrough!! FOUR new players are in - and one has gone on loan. Here's all the details....

OUT
Carlos Marinelli has joined Italian Serie A side Torino on loan for the rest of the season. The midfielder has hardly featured this term, after being touted to replace Juninho in the Boro first team.

IN
First in were the Derby duo of MALCOLM CHRISTIE and CHRIS RIGGOTT. Their transfers had been common knowledge for a while, but were only confirmed on deadline day. Christie, a striker, has signed on a permanent deal, but, unusually, Riggott has signed on loan for three months, with a guaranteed, unconditional permanent deal being signed in April.
Both players have signed for four and a half years.

MICHAEL RICKETTS was signed with less than 30 minutes to go of the deadline. The Bolton forward has signed for £3.5 million, plus an undisclosed percentage of any sell on fee. The 6ft 2 forward has scored 7 goals for a struggling Bolton side this season.

DORIVA has joined Boro from Celta Vigo until the end of the season to provide cover in midfield. The 30-year-old, who was a team-mate of Juninho’s at Sao Paulo, has 12 caps for his country. Doriva has also played for Atletic MG in his homeland, FC Porto and Italian giants Sampdoria.

BoroBarmy.com would like to welcome all four players to the Riverside - good luck at the Boro!
