Boro v Newcastle Match Off

Boro's home game against local rivals Newcastle has been called off. The view from Sir Bobby Robson, and those at Newcastle United is:

United's Match Falls Victim To The Weather

MAGPIES boss Sir Bobby Robson was not a happy man after hearing that the match with Middlesbrough on Saturday had been called off.

Despite the Riverside pitch being perfectly playable, Boro announced that the game would not take place on Friday lunchtime, saying the main reason was "spectator safety" after heavy snowfall down the A19.

"I'm not happy about it to be honest, in fact I'm quite angry. We were looking forward to the game, and to call it off at such an early stage seems strange to me," said Sir Bobby.

"I think there may be other factors involved in the match not being played, and there doesn't appear to have been much will from Middlesbrough to get the match on. We have tried to get them to play on Tuesday but we haven't heard anything back, so there's not much we can do about it now."

United's Reserves were also due to be in action at Ponteland United in the Northumberland Senior Cup, but that game has also been called off because of the adverse weather conditions.

We have underlined, and emboldened, certain section's of Mr Robson's comments.
