| Probably one of the best
players ever to come out of Middlesbrough, Willie was an outstanding centre back. When Boro won the old Division Two Championship under Jack Charlton in 1973-74, the defence conceded just 30 goals. He also managed the Boro, bringing in
players, with little cash, of the caliber of Bernie Slaven, Stephen Pears, and Gary Pallister. Sadly, Willie was
diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 1995, and passed away aged just 49 in August 2000.
