The 1996 - 1997 FA Cup
Semi-Final

Widely regarded as one of the best ever FA Cup Semi-Finals, this match had it
all. Boro were clear favourites, with Juninho, Ravanelli
and Emerson all in the team. Boro had beaten Manchester City and Derby County on the
way, and with lower division opposition, were expected to meet Chelsea or Wimbledon in the Final.
Played at Old Trafford on Sunday, 13th April 1997, and broadcast live on Sky Sports, this was the epic that nobody
expected. Boro were two nil down, had Vladimir Kinder sent off, and survived a
controversial moment when the ball hit the bar and bounced on the line, but managed to be 3-2 up with only a minute to
play in extra time. Jamie Hewitt then scored a header, to take Boro to a reply at Hillsborough, which was won 3-0.
