Boro v Newcastle Match Off

Boro's home game against local rivals Newcastle has been called off. The Official Statement from www.mfc.co.uk is:-

THE Premier League fixture between Middlesbrough and Newcastle United at the Riverside Stadium was today postponed on safety grounds.

The decision was made after an 11.15am inspection of the terraces and stadium approaches.

The inspection was carried out by the police Match Commander, the stadium's Safety Advisory Group, club safety officials and Premier League referee Jeff Winter.

All agreed it would be unsafe for the game to proceed due to the amount of snow and ice on the terraces.

A club spokesman said: "Taking into consideration the weather forecast and the present conditions it was agreed that the game should be postponed on safety grounds.

"The pitch was playable. The club had taken the precaution of covering it with a pitch cover which had several inches of snow on it."

No date has yet been set for the rescheduled game to take place.

Tickets will be valid for the re-arranged game. However, should ticket holders require a refund they must contact or call into the Ticket Office at the Riverside Stadium.
